Uh-oh, there goes the fall guy
I sometimes hear native Montanans complain that the state is being ruined by "newcomers." In fact, though I've only been here 15 years, even I've been occasionally tempted to wonder whether recent migrants share the same values as the old-timers who shaped the state.
Conversely, I've heard quite a few newcomers complain about the way the old-timers do things. It's almost as if, during an era when we increasingly understand the dangers of stereotypes, "native" and "newcomer" are some of the last ones we can usefully employ.
But then what is either side going to do with this: a poll that says newcomers and natives share exactly the same attitudes?
