One of my favorite journalists, Ted Conover, has a new piece in the current issue of the Columbia Journalism Review. He's pretty much reviewing the book "The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones," but he's also pondering "a kind of parable about participatory journalism." How does a writer know what to write about, and when to publish? What's the right mixture of immersion and distance to create works that are both powerful and true?
