An Unfinished divide

Today marks the appearance of my first article for the website www.newwest.net. The article covers critical reception for the movie "An Unfinished Life," expanding on a blog entry I wrote here.

I met Courtney and Jonathan of NewWest at Missoula Bookfest a couple of weeks ago, but I'd actually been hoping to write for them ever since the launch of their website last spring. I just needed the right vehicle. The great thing about writing for a website is that you can include lots of links where readers can explore more on their own; that's a luxury I don't often get in newspaper and magazine work. On the other hand, I'm not so used to writing long link-laden essays. Writing a critical review helped: I wanted to link to all those reviews. Let's hope this is the first of many such pieces for NewWest.

By the way, two things that didn't make it into that article. First, thanks to Bill Croke for the Spectator link. And second, here's a puzzling reference from a review I didn't otherwise mention:
[Redford's] life appears to us mere serbs as having been king-like...

Gee, do you suppose it's already opened in the former Yugoslavia?

I'm always interested in feedback, via info at johnclaytonbooks [dot] (com)
