The teenaged West
Last March I blogged about an extraordinary discussion in Gardiner, Montana, that I had participated in concerning Mildred Walker's book "Winter Wheat." But the event resonated in my mind so much that I kept thinking about, often with pen and notebook in hand, through the summer. I felt the immediacy of a scene, and I knew we had addressed some very deep and interesting topics.
But it took several rewrites -- and several more after starting to work with my editor -- before it became ready for publication. This piece -- which I called "The Teenaged West" though few editors took me up on that headline -- is available to Writers on the Range subscribers here.
