Gary Ferguson may be Montana's most underrated writer. Ferguson, who speaks in Billings on Tuesday and in Powell, Wyo., on Feb. 24, is the author of a dozen books on nature, many focusing on Yellowstone National Park.
But he's got a new gig recently, with the Los Angeles Times. You don't even have to shell out money for his books now -- you can sample his stuff on the Web for free. For example, Tuesday's story on the surfeit of trumpeter swans in northeast Idaho features sentences like these:
