Here’s an intriguing point of view from mystery writer Ross Macdonald (from a book called “Hardboiled Mystery Writers”):
Revision by persons other than the writer might possibly work for a book, but it cannot work for a writer. That is why Hollywood writers lose their morals so quickly and their writing ability eventually, and why movies in general are so bad.

Even more intriguing: He wrote that in 1952!
