What year is it?
Yesterday I pulled out a photocopy of a 19th-century newspaper clipping. I'd copied it a couple of years ago; it concerned the opening of a play starring Caroline Lockhart, whose biography I am writing. The clipping noted that the play opened on "Friday, Jan. 12," but it lacked source and date.
My handwriting, in the margin, said: "1894." And when I looked at it yesterday I thought: how the hell did I know that?
Then I remembered that I have bookmarked this site.
